WEBSTER BANK ARENA HOSTS FREE CONCERT TO HONOR SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
'A Night of Hope and Healing' features Grammy winners Casting Crowns, Toby Mac, American Idol's Mandisa
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (December 28, 2012) – Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment announced today that some of the most popular contemporary Christian rock and pop acts in the world will perform a free concert on Tuesday, January 15 at the Webster Bank Arena.
The concert is intended to serve as a night of spiritual healing for the Newtown community and a night of remembrance for the Sandy Hook School students and teachers who lost their lives on 12/14/12.
The complete concert lineup includes Grammy winners Casting Crowns, Toby Mac, American Idol's Mandisa, Building 429, Max Lucado, Laura Story and Steven Curtis and Marybeth Chapman.
"The Newtown community and Sandy Hook Elementary School are close to our hearts," said Howard Saffan, president of Harbor yard Sports and Entertainment, which manages Webster Bank Arena. "This is another way we are supporting those affected by this tragedy."
Local clergy will be at the concert to minister patrons who continue to feel anguish over the senseless deaths of so many innocent children and adults.
The concert was organized by Generation Exodus Foundation, a 501 C 3 nonprofit organization headquartered just outside Pittsburgh, PA, and one of the country’s largest promoters of contemporary Christian rock and pop music.
"These artists did not hesitate to give their time and talent. If they can help just one family or person through their music, they have achieved something monumental," said Kevin A. Braun, president of Generation Exodus Foundation.
Casting Crowns has sold 5 million records and won a Grammy in 2006. Toby Mac has sold 10 million records, hit No. 1 on the Contemporary Hit Radio charts five times and won the Grammy in 2009 for Best Rock or Rap Gospel album. Mandisa finished ninth on the sixth season of American Idol and has been nominated three times for a Grammy award. Building 429 was named the Gospel Music Association’s Best New Artist is 2005.
